Defects in homogenization theory

چکیده
We review a series of works that address homogenization for partial differential equations with highly oscillatory coefficients. A prototypical setting is periodic coefficients are locally, or more globally perturbed. investigate the limits obtained, first linear elliptic equations, both in conservative and non forms, next nonlinear such as Hamilton-Jacobi type equations.

Quantitative theory in stochastic homogenization
This course relies on a work in preparation with A. Gloria [2], which is a continuum version of [1]. It slightly differs from [2] because the present analysis does not rely on Green’s functions and treats the periodic case. For related work on an emerging quantitative theory of stochastic homogenization, including many references, we refer to three preprints, which are available on my web page:...
متن کاملMultiscale Homogenization in Kirchhoff’s Nonlinear Plate Theory
The interplay between multiscale homogenization and dimension reduction for nonlinear elastic thin plates is analyzed in the case in which the scaling of the energy corresponds to Kirchhoff’s nonlinear bending theory for plates. Different limit models are deduced depending on the relative ratio between the thickness parameter h and the two homogenization scales ε and ε.
متن کاملScattering Resonances of Microstructures and Homogenization Theory
Scattering resonances are the eigenvalues and corresponding eigenmodes which solve the Schrödinger equation Hψ = Eψ for a Hamiltonian, H, subject to the condition of outgoing radiation at infinity. We consider the scattering resonance problem for potentials which are rapidly varying in space and are not necessarily small in a pointwise sense. Such potentials are of interest in many applications...
متن کاملA homogenization result in the gradient theory of phase transitions
A homogenization problem arising in the gradient theory of fluid-fluid phase transitions is addressed in the vector-valued setting by means of Γ-convergence.
متن کاملHomogenization and Corrector Theory for Linear Transport in Random Media
We consider the theory of correctors to homogenization in stationary transport equations with rapidly oscillating, random coefficients. Let ε 1 be the ratio of the correlation length in the random medium to the overall distance of propagation. As ε ↓ 0, we show that the heterogeneous transport solution is well-approximated by a homogeneous transport solution. We then show that the rescaled corr...
